Assessment of AI-Adoption in Product Development by a Maturity Model Based on Technology Acceptance Scoring

Abstract
Adoption of AI-based technologies in engineering is increasing and companies seek for ways to evaluate the maturity of their organization regarding AI. To plan, manage and evaluate the adoption of AI technologies in product development, a maturity model can serve as a framework to guide future implementation efforts. This paper presents the results of a survey on existing maturity models for organizations applying AI in product development. Based on these insights, a novel maturity model is proposed utilizing the concept of technology acceptance scoring. The approach for acceptance scoring is introduced and applied in a case study demonstrating the application of the novel acceptance-based maturity model.
