Title

Crystal structure and thermal expansion of FOX-12

Abstract
The energetic material FOX-12 is a promising energetic oxidizer for use in propellants and insensitive munitions explosives with higher performance. An exact knowledge of the thermal behavior is important for its safety use. Therefore, FOX-12 was analyzed in context of the Swedish/German research cooperation between FOI and FHG-ICT for its applications and properties. Investigations of the thermal behavior of FOX-12 by means of temperature resolved X-ray diffraction, DSC and TG were started. The results include the morphology, the crystal and real structure, and its thermal expansion, the degree of crystallinity. Due to its layered structure FOX-12 exhibits a strongly anisotropic expansion.
