Production integrated environmental protection in foundries in Tong Xa

Within the joint R&D project IWRM Vietnam this chapter describes possibilities of production integrated environmental protection for the development of local IWRM measures in rural areas. A detailed analysis of the emission problem of simple metalworking companies in a rural area with typical craft villages and a related concept for production integrated environmental protection (PIEP) for foundries in craft villages have been developed. The concept is based on material flow analysis, dust emissions and water contamination and will be communicated on site. It offers recommendations for material changes, dust and water contamination reduction actions and organizational measures for production and quality. It is expected that the implementation of the recommended actions can have a considerable impact on the reduction of the contamination of air, soil and water, on the increase of production within companies, on quality increase for the products and even on increased health and safety conditions at the workplace.
