Erhöhung der Bruchzähigkeit durch Plättchen ohne Bindung und Reibung

By means of a simple theoretical model it is shown that rigid straight inclusions without bonding and friction are able to carry load across a crack in an elastic matrix. Quantitative estimates are given for bridging stress and its effect on fracture toughness of ceramics.
