Title
Pyrotechnic incendiaries to combat toxic clouds
Abstract
Toxic clouds may be released by industrial hazards but also by chemical warfare attacks. When the cloud is not widely expanded a pyrotechnic incendiary shot and dispersed into the cloud should be able to destroy a significant amount of toxic materials. Effective modes of action can be pyrolysis by heat release or combustion with ambient air. Several ideas to promote secondary combustion with air by exothermic production of primary reaction products like hydrogen or metal particles are presented and demonstrated with exemplary mixtures. An additional effect might be received by exothermic production of photo-catalytic active oxides. Test of incendiaries interacting with surrogate clouds in medium scale succeed in a good penetration and an intensive reaction of incendiary and cloud.
