Title

Calibration of Radar System with SAR Image-based Quality Optimisation

Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel method for calibrating radar systems and determining phase center locations using imaging-based sharpness metrics. Correctly identifying the phase center is crucial for optimal image quality in synthetic aperture radar (SAR), as traditional calibration methods often overlook this aspect. We evaluate the suitability of various sharpness metrics by repeatedly performing imaging on measurement data of a Siemens star under varying signal phase offsets. By selecting and maximizing the best-performing metric, our method significantly improves radar system calibration and image quality, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing SAR applications.
