Title

Reuse in software process simulation modeling

Abstract
Many simulation models of software development processes were created in the recent years and a lot of effort was spent during the development of detailed models. In software development, introducing reuse on different levels has reduced the development time. Why shouldn't that also be possible for the development of simulation models? We look at possible reuse approaches in software engineering and identify similarities in software process model simulation development. As possible assets for reuse we identified several kinds of artifacts created during process modeling. These artifacts can be reused in future projects; depending on their characteristics, they facilitate the development in different phases of simulation modeling. We look at different elements for reuse - in early phases more for knowledge, and in later phases for more concrete artifacts. For supporting reuse we should adhere to a method for developing simulation models. We expect to gain similar benefits like in software development.
