Complex components that incorporate local fibre reinforcement, inserts and force-application components have so far been produced primarily by the hand lay-up process. This process employs low-cost semi-finished products such as non-impregnated fibre non-wovens and less expensive equipment, such as manually closed compression moulds. The aim is to automate this process whilst still retaining the above advantages, to increase component quality by comparison to manual production and to reduce the exposure of employees to dusts, vapours and solvents.
