A Time Machine for Color Changes. Method Development for Prognosis of Quality Retention during Storage under Light Exposure of Cosmetic Products with natural Pigments
Abstract
Bright colors, glitter, transparent packaging - presented in this targeted way to encourage consumers to make a direct purchase decision. On the one hand, decorative cosmetic products are attractively placed and illuminated on the sales shelf, but on the other hand, it is precisely this storage under counter lighting that can influence the color effect to the negative. In this project at Fraunhofer IVV, we in-vestigated how manufacturers can predict the loss of quality during product storage during development and, if possible, prevent it. The aim was to develop a method for studying the influence of temperature and retail lighting on the color stability of decorative cosmetics. With the help of the acquired knowledge and checklist proposed on this basis, we have made it possible to predict color changes during storage across products. As a result, each step along the value chain can be optimized accordingly to extend the shelf life of the product.
