Title

Tracking the power consumption of concurrent batches in production processes

Abstract
With an increasing focus on sustainability, companies seek to track their energy usage as a basis to improve their environmental impact, and to identify areas for optimization. This paper presents a method to estimate the power consumption for the production of a specific batch in production processes where batches concurrently share production resources. This method was implemented in practice in a brick manufacturing plant using Asset Administration Shells with submodels for batches and production stages. The system uses the Eclipse BaSyx middleware which supports data collection and aggregation by implementing the Asset Administration Shell along different production stages, and therefore enabling a (close to) real time traceability of batches under production.
