Title
Impact of the preamble bandwidth on the synchronization performance
Abstract
In this paper, the authors compare the synchronization performance based on a narrow-band and a broad-band preamble and show that the broad-band preamble can guarantee a much more reliable operation. By analytical means, they show that for increasing bandwidth the synchronization performance approaches the one achievable in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel, which is also verified by simulations. The results are relevant for upcoming cellular standards, because significant benefits are demonstrated in particular for cell-edge users experiencing low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions.
