Title

Optimal local oscillator power in PSK homodyne systems

Abstract
System performance as a function of local oscillator power and the associated intensity noise is analysed. The optimal local oscillator power depends strongly on the magnitude and spectral characteristics of the laser intensity noise. BER calculations for a 1 Gbit/s PSK homodyne system are presented.
