Title

Competences and Competence Development in a Digitalized World of Work

Abstract
Ongoing digitalization opens up major opportunities for companies. Yet this process poses more than just a technical challenge. It is also reshaping the way work and decision-making are divided up between humans and machines, thereby requiring new competences from employees. Various scenarios sketch out future paths of development for technology, work organization, and the requisite competences. This paper elucidates the current state of research on digitalization and its impact on the world of work and competences requirements in Germany. It illustrates - both in general terms and on the basis of specific examples - the kind of (digital) competences that will be increasingly required in tomorrow's workplace.
