Abstract
The application of image processing systems in the computer-integrated factory requires image data structures which must enable a representation suitable for the specific task, and especially the processing speeds needed for shopfloor purposes. This article demonstrates for the procedure of texture analysis, how these requirements can be met with a hierarchical image resolution on the basis of so-called image pyramids. The concept is illustrated using the example of the inspection of glass fibre fabric.
