Title
Applications of CMC-racks for high temperature processes
Abstract
The usage of structural parts of ceramic matrix components (CMC) in industrial production processes is very rare. High temperature processes are e.g. hardening, brazing, sintering or coating (CVD, Plasma) of metals and ceramics [2]. The main demands on materials for tools or production facilities like racks in high temperature processes are: excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical properties. Besides pure metals (e.g. titanium or molybdenum), metal alloys (heat resistant steels, alloy 600, 601 or 617) or superalloys (e.g. oxide dispersion strengthened alloys) reinforced ceramics feature excellent properties. In the case under consideration carbon fiber reinforced carbon (C/C) and carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC) are suitable materials. This contribution presents C/C-, C/SiC and CMC-metal-compound racks for industrial applications. The process specialities (vacuum, oxygen, oil-quenching) and the improvements are presented.
