Texture analysis for the evaluation of surface characteristics in quality monitoring

Image processing sensor systems can inspect workpiece surfaces in quality monitoring as long as it is possible to extract relevant surface characteristics from the digitalized grey-value image of the workpiece surface. The problems of automated surface inspection are pointed out. Based on the task description, initial solutions are presented which have been tested on workpiece surfaces in industry and have led to the realization of an automate surface-testing system.
