Algorithms for the determination of video quality

This paper describes an algorithm that can be used to determine the image quality of video sequences coded according to the MPEG-4 part 10 standard (H.264/AVC). The PSNR is used as an objective gauge of image quality, based on the statistics of the quantized transform coefficients. The algorithm needs no information beyond the H.264/AVC data stream, a useful advantage where no reference signal is available.
