Multimedia in a tele-cooperative environment performing video communication on an ISDN-PC

In this paper we present the usage of real-time video and speech as a basis of cooperative multimedia work sessions. The notion of Tele Media is introduced and the advantage of ISDN for a communication platform is formulated briefly. In this context MISTER COOL, a multimedia communication system for ISDN PCs, is presented. In order to achieve the necessary throughput of the ISDN network, real-time compression/decompression hardware needs to be integrated. MISTER COOL's concepts, control mechanisms, and its realization as a Tele Medium are described.
