Title
Verwendung von 3D-Daten für mobile Anwendungen
Abstract
Current trends in the area of information technology enable users of mobile services to get access to information anytime from about anywhere. Compared with these advancements, the approaches to make mobile use of geographic information systems are lagging behind. These are inherently spatial. A new and flexible suited architecture is presented in this book chapter to utilize three-dimensional georeferenced data on mobile devices. In this context, the three aspects Augmented Reality, graphic and sketch-based interaction and preparation of three-dimensional data are regarded in detail to get combined. Mobile location-based services based on Augmented Reality techniques require the determination of position and viewing direction of the users. Three-dimensional data is needed to automatically determine the corresponding parameters values. The presentation of virtual information as overlapping additional information becomes possible in context of see-trough glasses. A graphic and sketch-based interaction enables the intuitive specification of a spatial situation. This kind of specification represents a further step of GIS towards ubiquitous computing. Visual statement can be used for specifications which probably are difficult to describe in other forms. The information like sensor data, video pictures or visual specifications are processed and mapped on georeferenced data of a system. A 3D manager is used for the preparation of the data. The content is semantically evaluated and used for an appropriate presentation. The resulting terrain data, topology, raster and vector data will be provided by use of a context model. Characteristics of applications, users, situations and devices will be taken into account. The techniques are effective for 3D data. New methods are investigated to develop solutions simple enough to handle for novice users, efficient for experts and robust enough for GIS data models. We describe how and why applications will benefit from this architecture.
