Title

Position adjustment of miniaturized components by application of impulsive force

Abstract
At Fraunhofer Institute, Jena, the principle of stepped transfer of momentum was applied in developing adjustment systems for precise adjustment in precision engineering and microoptical applications. Hammers of various types transfer measured mechanical pulses to adjust components such as mirrors, guides and optical fibres. Intelligent control of adjustment is realized with adapted software. Theoretical and experimental investigations resulted in the optimization of different prototypes based on principle of adjustment by application of impulsive force. Calculation of the movement generated, utilizing the classical theory of impact and the quasi-static law by Hertz, stand in the foreground of theoretical considerations. A model of the impact hammer against object is shown. With the use of the model and the law of conservation of energy different equations are developed. In the result the displacement delta s of the object can be estimated by change of coefficient of restitution k.
