Flame retardancy investigations on composites for lightweight electric vehicle battery housings

Title Supplement
Poster presented at "Fire and Polymers 2022" Workshop, June 5-8, 2022, Napa, California
Abstract
The automotive sector increasingly demands flame-retarded materials for electric vehicles. Suitable materials are needed to protect the rechargeable energy storage system (REESS) against an external source of damage such as a fuel fire outside the car.To meet the requirements, the flame retardancy of the REESS housing materials is of great importance. This poster describes the fire behavior of different thermoplastic and thermoset composites and sandwiches with different flame retardants, which were investigated by a bench-scale fuel fire test simulating the fire treatment of the UNECE-R100-8E on component level.
