An instrument to increase the efficiency of assembly systems is technical adaptability. Modularization is a key factor in adaptability. This paper describes the different dimensions of modularization. The implementation of modular assembly systems requires complex interfaces between the modules used. An exemplary modular assembly system is presented and its reconfiguration time is measured.
