Abstract
Most of welded joints incorporated into components under fatigue loading are subject to multiaxial stress/strain conditions with constant or variable orientation of the principal stresses. For the evaluation of the multiaxial stress/strain state an adequate stress hypothesis to be applied in order to derive an equivalent stress/strain. First, this paper gives a short overview on mostly applied hypotheses. The present report shows test results obtained from specimens with typical weld configurations under constant amplitude multiaxial loading. Based on these test results the usually applied strength hypotheses are compared and their limitations are discussed.
