Title

LOCAL ENERGY SYSTEM SIZING WITH WIND, PV, AND HYDROGEN

Abstract
For the design of local energy systems with several generation and consumption units, the sizing of the components plays a crucial role. Constraints come from a technical as well as an economic perspective. In local energy systems with different storage technologies, the decision about which storage is to be used must be made. Furthermore, if the system is grid-connected, acceptable limits on energy exchange with the grid need to be chosen. Thus, to optimize the sizes of the components, first the operation of the plant needs to be defined. This paper first describes the model of the system, and then states the operational problem. The model is then formally given as a set of equations and an optimization problem is defined. The solution of the optimization problem not only solves the sizing problem but at the same time solves the operation problem, such that no oversizing of the system is done due to poor control of the operation.
