Title

3D oscillation-assisted laser beam cutting with time-synchronized process monitoring

Abstract
A current subject of research is to optimize the laser cutting process in terms of process efficiency and cut edge quality, especially in thick sheet metal cutting. One approach is to influence the energy distribution in the cut kerf using various beam shaping options, including dynamic beam oscillation. The challenge lies in the fact that the oscillation parameters of beam shaping, which are added to the conventional laser cutting process, create an infinite number of new parameter combinations. For the first time, a complete system has been set up at the IWS in cooperation with the CMA with the aid of the process monitoring options. This system is intended to help provide deeper insights into the processes taking place in the cutting zone and thus contribute to an expanded understanding of the process. First experiments were carried out to investigate the influence of the 3D beam oscillations on the cut quality and cutting speed.
