Trendsetting, the Japanese use quality as a factor to sell their products and services successfully on the world market against the pressure of competition. So far, German enterprises have not been forced to accept competitive disadvantages, but small and medium enterprises are increasingly facing the fact that Quality Assurance is a factor of survival. The new procedures and techniques used by the Japanese, the structures offered by the State to enterprises, as well as the activities of public institutions prevailing in Japan were examined by means of literature and a sojourn in Japan for the "Quality Assurance investigation: status and evaluation, recommendation for measures", to derive therefrom a catalogue of measures for their selected promotion in Germany.
