Title
Making Sustainable Hydrogen Production a Reality: Scaling up the Production of Electrolysers and Fuel Cells
Abstract
In the context of demanding sustainable energy production, hydrogen is known as the next green energy carrier. However, many challenges persist concerning the fulfillment of carbon-free hydrogen production. The central element for green hydrogen is the electrolyser, it separates water into hydrogen and oxygen using green energy. The task is to revolve around the urgent establishment of an efficient and economic amplification of electrolyser manufacturing on a large scale. The Referenzfabrik.H2 is actively addressing some challenges, linked to the upscaling of cost-efficient electrolyser and hydrogen systems production, employing technologies and development drawn from partners from industrial sectors and research institutes. Operating as a cooperative consortium, the Referenzfabrik.H2 functions as a value chain community of companies with different expertise, thereby enabling collaborative engagement and the dissemination of knowledge through a technological toolbox used to a sustainable ramp-up manufacturing of H2 system components. The Referenzfabrik.H2 wants also to serve as a connection between Germany and other countries. With partners in countries that have renewable energy potential, the Referenzfabrik.H2 can catalyze collaboration, through joint efforts. Among the initiatives are the development of manufacturing processes, automation and quality assurance solutions, and standardized techniques, driving the transformation of the hydrogen industry towards competitive hydrogen production and its acceptance.
