Life cycle management with reconfigurable embedded systems

This article presented a software framework for managing the online reconfiguration, the testing, the debugging and the programming of an embedded system consisting of different programmable logic parts, memory circuits, micro-controllers and digital signal processors. The advantages of the presented solution are available with only few additional resources as 1.5 MBytes FLASH. The system is optimized for reliability. This means that the OSGi standard ensures a 24 hours operation per day and this for 365 days in the year. This technology is interesting for every system using a network adapter like DSL, GSM, ISDN or analogue modem to be connected with a service center. Via this connection it is possible to update parts of the system or the system at all. It is also possible to upgrade the system functionality. This presentation gives a first impression about the possibilities.
