Title

Phasor Estimation and Power Measurement in the Context of Dynamic RMS Simulation Model Validation

Abstract
There are numerous applications for the transformation of three-phase signals into RMS or phasor values in electric power systems. Examples are phase angle monitoring or the validation of dynamic RMS simulation models, with the latter being the primary focus of this work. Several methods for this transformation based on signal definitions of RMS values as well as active and reactive power found in literature and guidelines are reviewed. The methods incorporate phasor estimation, Fourier transformation, Kalman filter and phase-locked loops for enhanced accuracy during frequency deviations. Benchmark tests are defined to compare the results of the transformation to the outcome of RMS simulations. Methods based on digital Fourier transform perform best on average, although no method outperforms the others in all scenarios.
