Title

A universal standards converter concept for HDTV applications

Abstract
At the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut a universal standards converter for a conversion between two different TV or HDTV standards with different line, pixel and field rates has been developed by computer simulation. Input and output signals may be scanned interlaced or progressively. Thus a conversion between HDTV and motion picture film and vice versa can also be performed. As an example the results of computer simulations for a conversion between HDTV standards (60 Hz/1125 lines to or from 50 Hz/1250 lines) and from HDTV 60 Hz/1125 lines to TV 50 Hz/625 lines using natural and artificial TV and HDTV test sequences are reported.
