Within the EU, the decision about food law approval of recycled plastics in food packaging has not been finally made. Generally accepted or even standardized test methods are still not available at present, so that only individual or case-related solution methods remain at the moment. In this respect, efforts have been made in recent years at the Freising Fraunhofer-Institut für Lebensmitteltechnologie und Verpackung to elaborate the test methods needed here - also with a view to the conversion into Europe-wide recognized standards. The work presented here describes the principles of such test methods and presents practical examples.
