Eine Lebenslaufkostenrechnung dient dazu, eine über den Lebenslauf betrachtete, kostenoptimale Anlagennutzung zu gewährleisten und Ansatzpunkte für Prozessoptimierungen bereitzustellen. Häufig reicht es jedoch nicht aus, nur eine einzelne Anlage zu betrachten, denn die Rahmenbedingungen der Produktion sind entscheidend. Im Industriealltag wird jedoch das Life Cycle Costing (LCC) noch zu selten in der strategischen Investitionsplanung eingesetzt und zu einem Controllingsystem ausgebaut, das die Einhaltung der kalkulierten Konditionen steuert und permanent überwacht.

Life Cycle Costing serves for ensuring cost-optimised plant utilisation from a life cycle point of view and for providing starting points for process optimisation. However, frequently it will not be sufficient to consider just one isolated plant because the framework conditions for production operations are decisive. In daily industrial operations, Life Cycle Costing is still employed too rarely in strategic investment planning and extended to become a controlling system for control and permanent monitoring of the respect of the calculated conditions.
