An increasing export share accompanied by a trend of a localisation of the value added is visible in German rolling stock construction. Protecting the competitive edge against the background of these trends claims new impulses by the German rolling stock constructors. The eSIE.CAR-project embarks the objective to initiate sustainable impulses by an innovative railcar body concept thus besides other targets. The present article describes selected experiences and results of the research about the "Modular Hybrid Design" concerning the high-precision manufacturing, the joining technology eSIE.CONNECT and the potential use of the eSIE. CAR-technology.This results in an explicit potential for increasing the profitability during the whole life cycle.
