Title
Data-driven Transformation: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Sustainable Urban Development
Abstract
Municipalities are under increasing pressure to transform towards sustainability and significantly accelerate the dynamics of change. For effective transformation, it is essential to gain knowledge that enables the identification of challenges and the derivation of suitable measures and strategies. A solid foundation for this process is a comprehensive and high-quality data base. This paper will present a systematic approach to data collection at the municipal level, focusing on the need of interconnected thinking and knowledge as well as interdisciplinary collaboration. The framework for this data collection is shaped by sustainability goals with a particular focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating various data sources and promoting collaboration among different stakeholders, cities can better understand their specific challenges and opportunities. The proposed approach aims not only to enhance the availability and quality of data but also to create a participatory framework that engages different actors in the decision-making process. Ultimately, this approach seeks to support municipalities on their way to a more sustainable development, ensuring they can adapt to changing conditions while promoting social equity and environmental responsibility.
