Characterization raw desulphogypsums and natural raw gypsums
Abstract
The physical and chemical properties of desulphogypsum and natural gypsum were investigated in the course of a research project with the object of clarifying the different behaviour of the two raw materials in industrial processes. By measuring the Vickers hardness, the abrasive action, the attrition and the grinding hardness it was possible to show that raw desulphogypsums are harder than natural raw gypsums. Structural differences between raw desulphogypsums and natural raw gypsums indicate lattice distortions in the raw desulphogypsum crystals which could explain the higher level of hardness.
