Title
Wireless Image Communication via Wavelet Transformation
Abstract
Resource limitation of mobile data terminals and narrow band widths of existing and emerging wireless communication networks form a serious bottleneck for global mobile multimedia application. To overcome this bottleneck, new communication concepts and technologies are needed. In this paper, we describe our research work of using Wavelet Transformation (WT) to enable mobile clients to flexibly specify, manipulate and transfer multimedia data. At first, the paper discusses the technical limitations of mobile computing technologies, and requirements on media coding schemata in regard to the flexible wireless media communication. Afterwards, it is explained why WT is appropriate for wireless image communication as the image transformation technique in image coding process. Then an algorithm of WT for images with arbitrary resolutions is given. Before the conclusions are given, validation in the prototype is described. From this paper we can conclude that WT can be successfully applied in a totally new emerging field - mobile computing, as it has been in many other fields.
