The positioning of innovative micro-segmentation cars with short lifecycles represents an important challenge for the automotive industry. Therefore, general flexibility strategies are available but have to be adapted to the specific requirements. The article describes traditional flexibility strategies, illustrates the concepts of planning flexible production systems and finally describes necessary action steps and different approaches to develop flexible final assembly systems.
