DAICOS - distributed assistance information and communication system

As part of the DAICOS (Distributed Assistance Information and Communication System) research project concepts and system prototypes were developed for an interoperability platform based on HLA/RTI. The paper summarizes the results and conclusion of the research project. The objective was a communication infrastructure combining different maritime products of partners and commercial products for decision support and training applications. The use of HLA as interface definition allowed the integration of heterogeneous simulation and visualization components. On the simulation side a nautical, ECDIS based, simulator, an engine control room simulator and a fire simulator were integrated. A S57/S52 based map viewer for the nautical training and a 3D virtual reality model of an engine room were available as viewing components.
