Application of membrane processes in food technologies
Abstract
In all branches of the food industry, membrane processes do have an enormous potential to improve the efficiency of traditional production lines as well as quality and yield of valuable products. In most applications, well-known conventional food treatment procedures can be simplified or improved by adding membrane separation steps. These substantial improvements which are based on recent developments in membrane materials and modules and on an advanced understanding of the separation mechanisms are most important milestones on the way to cleaner production technologies in the food-processing industry.
