Inhaltliche und technische Erweiterung des hessischen Umweltinformationssystems MARS

MARS is a WWW-based platform (http://www.herasum.de) for presenting information on the environment. It provides the access to actual measurements of environmental parameters and presents its data using up-to-date multimedia techniques such as Java access to relational databases and 3D animation. Since MARS is available on the Internet, various adaptions to the requirements of new content providers and extensions for the integration of further data sources were and will be developed. This paper gives an overview of MARS and its current development. It shows the integration of new 3D presentations and introduces the project VIRGO (Visualisation Interface for Regional Geological Objects), which goal is the connection od a GIS database to the Internet and the development of navigation and download concepts for geographical data.
