On automatic monitoring of rotating tools in metal-cutting manufacture, taking into account distance and vibvration sensors
Abstract
Monitoring systems for tools are necessary in automatic mechanical production, since tool failure may cause considerable damage. The present paper describes the monitoring tasks for some rotating tools, compares existing supervision methods and proposes future use of distance and vibration measurements, the suitability of which is shown experimentally for drills. In order to fulfill requirements in automatic production with changing combinations of tools and workpieces, monitoring systems should be very flexible. (IITB)
