Problematik endokrin wirksamer Substanzen in Gewässern in Deutschland

Eine Vielzahl von Substanzen steht im Verdacht, das endokrine System negativ zu beeinflussen. Neben Industriechemikalien, Bioziden und Pflanzenschutzmitteln sind dies auch synthetische und natürliche Hormone sowie Phytosteroide, deren Wirkung auf das hormonelle System über verschiedene Mechanismen erfolgt. In Abhängigkeit ihrer Verwendung gelangen potentiell endokrin wirksame Substanzen in Oberflächengewässer und führen zu einer Exposition aquatischer Organismen. Substanzen mit dem Potential das endokrine System zu stören wurden in Oberflächengewässern in Konzentrationen im ng/L bis µg/L Bereich nachgewiesen. Bezüglich der Wirkungsstärke der einzelnen Substanzen bestehen jedoch große Unterschiede, so dass für die Gefährdung der Organismen nicht nur die Konzentration der Substanz im Gewässer von Bedeutung ist, sondern das vorhandene Wirkpotential. In diesem Beitrag wird die Belastung von Oberflächengewässern in Deutschland mit endokrin wirksamen Substanzen zusammengefasst und am Beispiel der estrogenen Wirkung die analytischen Konzentrationen der estrogenen Gesamtbelastung gegenübergestellt.

A variety of substances found in the environment are suspected to have the potential for disrupting the endocrine system. Beside industrial chemicals, biocides and pesticides, these are synthetic and natural hormones as well as phytosteroids. These substances can influence the endocrine system via different mechanisms. Due to their usage and occurrence the potential endocrine substances can enter the surface waters resulting in an exposure of aquatic organisms. Substances with the potential to affect the endocrine system were found in surface waters in the ng/L and µg/L range. Due to the great differences in the relative potencies of the compounds not only the concentrations but also the total effect potential is of importance for assessing the hazard. In this article, the concentrations of endocrine active substances in German surface waters will be summarised. Considering estrogenic activity as an example, measured concentrations will be compared with the respective estrogenic activity.
