Title
ODIX: An on-demand internet computing system
Abstract
In this paper, the application of an autonomic cross-platform operating environment for supporting on-demand Internet applications is presented. It is used to implement the On Demand Internet Computing System (ODIX) which supports the spontaneous deployment, composition and launching of Java applications on separately managed Internet computing systems. In contrast to regular rich client frameworks, such as Java Web Start and Eclipse Equinox, ODIX is not limited to a single platform installation but provides the illusion of a ubiquitous computing environment. The use of the approach is described and its applications for supporting nomadic desktop computing and running applications out-of-the box are illustrated.
