Functional coating comprises a coating matrix material and a composite material (1). The composite material comprises carrier-/binder material (2) comprising phyllosilicates, fullerenes, graphite, perovskites, graphene, zirconia alumina, silica gel or nanotubes, and a functional material bound to the carrier-/binder material. The functional material comprises photocatalysts (4). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a substrate coated with the functional coating; (2) producing the functional coating, comprising (a) providing the coating matrix material, (b) providing the carrier-/binder material, (c) providing the functional material, (d) binding the functional material to the carrier-/binder material, and (e) introducing the functional material and the carrier-/binder material in the coating matrix material; and (3) a kit of parts for producing the functional coating, comprising the coating matrix material, the composite material, which comprises the carrier-/binder material and the functional material, and at least one solvent and/or diluent.
