Abstract
DE 10112734 A UPAB: 20020308 NOVELTY - Production of silicon carbide hollow fibers comprises spinning a polycarbosilane and/or melts containing polysilane at a suitable temperature at which fibers are produced; hardening the fibers at not more than 120 deg. C using an amine which is liquid or gas at room temperature by contacting the fibers with the amine; and pyrolyzing the hardened fibers at at least 800 deg. C. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preferred Features: Hardening is carried out at 50-70 deg. C with the exclusion of oxygen and with the aid of a carrier gas containing the corresponding amine. The fibers have a wall thickness of 2-10 mu m. The ratio of the diameter of the fibers to the thickness is 2-10: 1. The fibers are 0.1 cm to over 1000 m long. USE - Used as silicon carbide hollow fibers. ADVANTAGE - The fibers have high strength.
