Title

Verfahren zur Abscheidung makromolekularer lichtemittierender Schichten

Other Title
Deposition of macromolecular light-emitting layer useful for light-emitting diode - uses combined vapour deposition of highly conjugated polymer and plasma polymerisation of monomer, giving stable film.
Abstract
NOVELTY - Deposition of macromolecular light-emitting layers is carried out by vaporizing a highly conjugated polymer at at least 300 deg. C and at most 50 mbar, and depositing on a substrate under plasma polymerisation conditions together with a plasma-polymerisable monomer. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for an obtained coated substrate. USE - The obtained coated substrate is a light-emitting diode (LED) (claimed). The process is useful for producing LEDs of large area, especially blue-emitting LEDs. ADVANTAGE - A combination of vacuum deposition of the polymer and plasma polymerisation gives an amorphous matrix with embedded clusters of the polymer. The polymer retains its functional integrity, i.e. delocalised electron system, which assists luminescence and ensures long-term stability; whereas thin amorphous layers of light-emitting organic materials produced by vacuum sublimation only have satisfactory efficiency and emission-colour selectivity but te nd to recrystallised or undergo other physical changes or chemical degradation, which may cause emission losses.
