Beschrieben wird ein Waermespeicher mit wenigstens einem ersten und zweiten, getrennt voneinander jeweils mit einem Medium befuellbaren und/oder durchstroembaren Volumen, die in thermischem Kontakt stehen oder bringbar sind. Die Erfindung zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass zwischen wenigstens dem ersten und dem zweiten Volumen wenigstens ein weiteres von einem Fluid befuellbares und entleerbares Volumen, ein so genanntes schaltbares Volumen, vorgesehen ist, das mit den Medien des ersten und zweiten Volumens in thermischem Kontakt steht.
