The description relates to a process for wrapping and tying cables and similar winding materials, whereby the winding material is fed in a drum-shaped hollow chamber of a non-rotating winding device in such a way that the winding material is placed in successive loops or layers along the inner circumferential surface of the winding hollow chamber. The device for performing the process consists accordingly of at least one drum arrangement in which the winding material can be inserted, whereby the internal circumferential surface of the hollow cavity prescribes the contact surface for forming the external circumferential surface of the coils. The container consists preferably of at least two joinable shaped halves.
