The widening device can expand the hollow body to a desired external circumference. The hollow body has regions which are at least partly elastic. The hollow body (7) has at least one elastic hose (1) fitted to it, one end of which is closed and the other open. Power transmitting media can be introduced into the open end of the hose to expand the hose axially. The hose may be glued or vulcanised to the external circumference of the hollow body. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in surgery to protect organs being operated on from chemical and mechanical effects. Does not require any mechanical effect to be exerted on inside of hollow body.
