The description refers to a device for the free positioning of machining tools which can be positioned by means of a handling device and in particular an industrial robot mounted on a base part which has at least one flat surface to which one surface of the machining tool is adjacent and which are held by a retention force acting between the flat surface and the contact surface. The invention is characterized by the combination of the following features: - the retention force acting between the flat surface and the contact surface is a force generated without any external operating elements and maintainable without any energy source - a device which at least reduces the retention force prior to removal of the machining tool is provided in the base part.
